Volunteers are being sought to help promote McKean County as part of the America250 initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The multi-year effort, underway now through July 4, 2026, is an opportunity to reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.
The McKean County effort, A250PA-McKean, will showcase the county’s place in the nation’s history by highlighting its history, economic innovations and future contributions, while fostering a sense of pride across all communities in the county. The effort will include organizing, coordinating and showcasing events, people, the outdoors and businesses as a means to celebrate the county.
Community involvement and collaboration lie at the heart of this endeavor, said Carolyn Boser Newhouse, executive director of the Bradford Area Alliance.
“We have wonderful communities in McKean County filled with remarkable individuals,” she said. “I look forward to working with anyone interested in helping showcase our communities. With 12 diverse focus areas, A250PA-McKean appeals to a wide range of interests, ensuring there’s something for everyone to contribute to in areas they are passionate about.”

“We envision a committee actively engaged in promoting McKean County as a destination for visitors, businesses and families,” Newhouse said. “Celebrating America’s 250th anniversary is a tremendous opportunity to spotlight McKean County and generate interest and awareness for new people to visit or settle.
“Together, the committee will work to enhance the county’s visibility and make a lasting impact by showcasing the unique heritage, natural beauty and vibrant community spirit that defines McKean County,” she added.
