SPRING: Are you looking for signs of spring?

We’ve seen robins and heard peepers, sure signs of this week’s change of seasons.

We’ve seen a host of daffodils blooming a bit south of Bradford, and that distinctive smell that signals skunks are out and about.

We’re not out of March yet, and snow is in the forecast all week long. There’s that old folklore about March’s weather, in like a lamb, out like a lion.

According to the Farmers’ Almanac, the weather folklore stems from ancestral beliefs in balance, meaning if the weather at the start of March was bad (roaring, like a roaring lion), the month should end with good weather (gentle, like a lamb).

TODAY: NationalToday.com tells us that 17 holidays are celebrated today, including one that made us giggle — Awkward Moments Day.

“Some things are just better out in the open and Awkward Moments Day on March 18 is your chance to embrace those embarrassing or awkward moments from your past and laugh about them. Remember that time you enthusiastically waved at your friend but soon realized that they were a complete stranger? What about the time when that incy-wincy pebble tripped you in front of all of your classmates? For some of us, it feels like these awkward moments come looking for us. If you’re one of those people, then today is your day.”

It’s also Act Happy Day and National Sloppy Joe Day, along with the more serious Forgive Mom and Dad Day and National Supreme Sacrifice Day.

“National Supreme Sacrifice Day, observed every year on March 18, is a day of commemoration. On this day, we honor those who sacrificed their lives for a good cause, no matter how small the cause might have been.”
