UNIVERSITY PARK — For those interested in learning how to design their garden space and promote soil health, Penn State Extension is offering a webinar titled “Living on a Few Acres: Soil Fertility and Garden Layout” from 6 to 8 p.m. March 14.
This session is designed for the beginning producer or homesteader and for those looking to become more self-sufficient in producing a crop.
Before you plant a garden or a tree, you first must consider the soil and where you will locate the crop, webinar organizers said. This event is aimed at helping beginning producers understand their soil and determine the best place for their garden to thrive for years to come.
Participants will learn the basics of soil fertility, how to locate a good site for a garden or orchard, and how to set up a garden.
The “Living on a Few Acres” webinar series covers basic information on how to get started and provides resources with more advanced information for participants to continue pursuing goals or hobbies. Topics have included beekeeping, syrup making, vegetable gardening, tree and small fruit production, home food preservation, backyard greenhouses, and other homesteading topics.
Participants must register by 8 p.m. March 14 to receive the link to access the live webinar. A $5 registration fee accompanies the event. Registrants also will receive access to the webinar recording.
