HERSHEY — Port Allegany’s Carson Neely is going to be coming home with some hardware.
A state championship will allude the Port Allegany heavyweight after a semifinal loss, but Neely will nevertheless find his way to the medal stand on Saturday.
Friday began for Neely with a quarterfinal win over Tyrone’s Braden Ewing, 3-0.
In the semifinals, Neely dropped a heartbreaker, 3-2 in an ultimate tiebreaker against Brody Kline of Berks Catholic.
Neely will wrestle Mark Effendian of Faith Christian Academy in a consolation semifinal bout at 9:30 a.m. and win or lose, will wrestle again at 11:30 a.m.
His teammate, Aiden Bliss, also made it to the quarterfinals at 172, where he lost to Adam Waters of Faith Christian via tech fall, 16-0.
Bliss then dropped down into the consolations, where his terrific season came to a close with n 11-2 major decision loss to Kyle Scott of Tyrone.
Kane’s Reece Bechakas and St. Marys’ Andrew Wolfanger also dropped their consolation matches on Friday.
Faith Christian and Bishop McCort are running away with the total team points, as Faith Christian has 140 and Bishop McCort 115.5 going into Saturday’s action.
