CLEARFIELD — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the highway restoration project on Route 646 in Keating Township, McKean County, is underway. Preliminary survey work began Monday for the project, which will improve ride quality and extend the life of approximately 3 miles of highway between Ormsby and Cyclone.
PennDOT urges drivers to watch for surveyors in the roadway, exercise caution in this and all work zones, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
Starting the week of March 11, the contractor will begin tree-cutting work within the project limits during daylight hours. Drivers may encounter short delays as flaggers enforce an alternating traffic pattern. They should remain alert for flaggers and slow-moving or stopped traffic. PennDOT expects tree-cutting work to take about two weeks.
The contractor will then move on to the resurfacing portion of the project. Traffic control for this portion will again entail flaggers in the roadway enforcing an alternating traffic pattern.
Overall work on the project includes milling, paving, drainage improvements, sidewalk installation, and miscellaneous construction. PennDOT anticipates the contractor will complete the project in early November. All work is weather dependent.
