EMPORIUM — Cameron County commissioners unveiled their 2024 priorities, aimed at fostering community growth, enhancing infrastructure, improving transparency, ensuring fiscal responsibility and nurturing a positive work environment within the courthouse.
“With a renewed focus on engaging with the public, the commissioners’ office seeks to create educated and empowered residents who actively participate in building a thriving Cameron County,” representatives said in a press release.
Commissioners’ have identified a number of initiatives to position Cameron County at the forefront of rural development. They include:
To address needed infrastructure improvements, commissioners will collaborate with municipalities to maintain and advance vital community infrastructure, and advocate for increased investment in rural communities to address infrastructure needs through statewide marketing campaigns.
Regarding transparency and communication initiatives, commissioners will update electronic points of contact to enhance user-friendliness and provide up to-date information; increase the frequency of press releases and updates to keep the community informed about courthouse initiatives; build open lines of communication and foster intergovernmental collaboration with local municipalities and regional neighbors; and educate the public about courthouse departments and available resources to increase our community’s awareness and maximize their usage.
In terms of fiscal responsibility, commissioners aim to equip county departments with resources and training to secure matching grant funding at state and federal levels to bolster the budget.
Further, intentional efforts to sustain a positive work environment for courthouse employees and initiatives to promote employee well-being and professional growth are planned at the courthouse.
“This year, the Cameron County Commissioners Office is dedicated to not only setting priorities but also engaging with our community in a meaningful way,” stated Commissioner Jessica Herzing. “We believe that by working together, we can create a vibrant and prosperous future for our county. We encourage all residents to join us in our efforts and become active participants in shaping the Cameron County of tomorrow.”
“I’m very proud and awestruck with the great strides our residents have been making over the last handful of years,” Commissioner James Moate added. “To that end, it is my sincere belief that this board of commissioners will prioritize the stimulation of these efforts as we continue to advocate for and cultivate all aspects of our local economy throughout the entire county.”
Commissioner Joshua Zucal stated, “We are fortunate to be in the position to assist with the resurgence of Cameron County. The citizens of this great community are the backbone to the county’s success and resiliency. I see amazing things on the horizon and a plethora of opportunities we can capture and take advantage of. We are looking forward to engagement with the community while accomplishing our goals as elected officials.”
