HARRISBURG — Zippo lighters, Case knives, the Neighborhood Trolley from “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” — what is the coolest thing made in Pennsylvania?
The PA Chamber is preparing to launch the highly anticipated return of the wildly popular contest known as “Coolest Thing Made in PA.” Last year, Zippo lighters made a strong run through the field, knocked out by some tasty competition — Mrs. T’s pierogies. The overall winner was another tasty Pennsylvania favorite, the Primanti Bros. sandwich.
This year, the chamber is asking for submissions for the bracket-style contest by its Friday deadline.
The field had 32 contestants last year, but is being doubled this year, “giving brand lovers twice as many opportunities to ensure their team is represented,” the chamber press release stated. “Also voters will have two chances per round to vote — on both X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.”
There are a lot of products made in the Pennsylvania Wilds, and rather than strength in numbers, the region shows dogged determination in getting things done.
“During and following last year’s competition, we heard from plenty of impassioned Pennsylvanians who made the case for why their favorite item should have been included or why they should have won,” PA Chamber President and CEO Luke Bernstein said. “We’ve been asking for and receiving recommendations since last year’s competition ended, and we’re continuing to encourage submissions through the end of this week. As we double the size of this year’s bracket and build on last year’s success, we cannot wait to highlight the many companies and brands that make Pennsylvania the coolest state in the nation!”

The only submission criteria is that it has to be made here, in the Keystone State.
