(TNS) — Buckle up for tax season.
Whether you love filing early just to get things out of the way, or you’re normally a procrastinator who usually files last minute, it’s almost that time of year.
And if you’re wondering when to start filing, well, it’s soon.
Monday, Jan. 29, is the official start date of the 2024 tax season, when the Internal Revenue Service will begin accepting and processing 2023 tax returns, according to an announcement the IRS made on its website.
But, unlike last year, Tax Day returns to normal – without the additional three days so many were allotted.
This year, Tax Day is back on April 15 and more than 128.7 million individual tax returns are expected to be filed by that deadline.
For taxpayers living in Maine or Massachusetts, you have until April 17, 2024, due to the Patriots and Emancipation Day holidays. If a taxpayer resides in a federally declared disaster area, they also may have additional time to file.
For taxpayers who need to request an extension, your deadline to file is Oct. 15, 2024.
