ERIE — The Erie VA Medical Center is seeking compassionate caregivers interested in enrolling in its new Medical Foster Home (MFH) Program.
The MFH Program is an alternative living environment for veterans who require nursing home-level care but prefer a non-institutional setting in a private home with fewer residents.
MFH caregivers and relief caregivers provide care and supervision to the veteran 24 hours a day, seven days a week in a private residence. Caregivers help the veteran carry out daily living activities including bathing and getting dressed, home-cooked nutritious meals, laundry and leisure activities.
“The Medical Foster Home Program is a wonderful option for veterans that allows them to live in their community,” said Erie VA MFH Program Coordinator Kamie Mazza. “No medical experience is necessary to become a caregiver.”
The VA ensures the caregivers are well trained to provide VA planned care, and each veteran in the MFH Program is followed by the VA’s Home-Based Primary Care Program.
Anyone interested in becoming a caregiver or learning more about the program can contact the Medical Foster Home Program coordinator at (814) 780-2347 to learn more.
