SMETHPORT — A Kane woman was sentenced last week in McKean County Court to serve 15 to 30 months in state prison for her baby suffering a near-fatal fentanyl overdose while in her care.
Amanda Zampogna, 36, of Kane, was sentenced Jan. 4 to state prison for a charge of endangering the welfare of a child, with 30 months of concurrent probation, according to District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer.
On July 22, the baby was rushed to UPMC Kane Hospital for the effects of a drug overdose after Zampogna’s drug paraphernalia containing fentanyl was left in the baby’s reach. The baby was then taken to a Pittsburgh hospital for care. Blood tests of the baby revealed the presence of fentanyl and xylazine. The baby has made a full recovery, Shaffer said.
Zampogna was also ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation and drug and alcohol evaluation and follow through with any recommended treatment and to have no unsupervised contact with the victim unless changed by a custody order.
Also sentenced was Nicholas White, 24, of Bradford, who will serve a period of state prison time of 2 years to 4 years plus 3 years of consecutive probation for theft of a motor vehicle of a pickup truck belonging to a Bradford company, theft by receiving stolen property of an all-terrain vehicle, and flight to avoid apprehension. White was also ordered to pay restitution to the victims and additional terms.
Jessica Blood, 34, was ordered to undergo a period of state incarceration of 15 to 30 months and 30 months concurrent probation for possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamine. Blood pleaded guilty to selling methamphetamine to a person cooperating with the McKean County Drug Task Force for $100 while under surveillance by Drug Task Force detectives. She was ordered to undergo a D&A evaluation and follow through with any recommended treatment.
Gene Meacham, 24, of Bradford, was sentenced to 20 to 40 months in state prison for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements.
