ELDRED — The public is invited to meet Hero, a dog who survived injuries while serving in Afghanistan, at the Eldred World War II Museum on Friday.
The Hero’s Christmas event will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the museum, 201 Main St. Hero is an 8-year-old German shepherd who suffered head injuries in August 2021 and was forced to retire.
Hero served as an explosives detection specialist with the U.S. Army. He also served in South Africa and the Australian embassy.
Hero will receive a special award during the event from master of ceremonies Scott Burt of the Police Gazette. Burt is also president of the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame in Belfast, N.Y.
Mia and Lalu Narayan of Coudersport adopted Hero and will also be recognized during Friday’s event for their work with him.
Cookies, hot chocolate and other light refreshments will be provided.
