UNIVERSITY PARK — Dairy farmers are invited to attend Penn State Extension’s “Milk Quality Workshop: Tools to Reduce Mastitis on Your Farm,” which will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 16 at Penn State Extension’s Franklin County office, 185 Franklin Farm Lane, Chambersburg.
This workshop is geared toward dairy farmers, herdspersons and dairy farm employees.
Attendees will learn to develop and implement protocols to prevent mastitis and improve milk quality. The workshop also will cover steps to identify the causes of mastitis for an improved cure rate, how to analyze Dairy Herd Improvement Association records to make profitable decisions, and how to implement protocols to make better treatment decisions and increase farm profitability.
Organizers said registrants who would like help analyzing their Dairy Herd Improvement Association records during the workshop should bring a copy of the following reports to review: DHIA Herd Summary Report 202, Lab Report 751, SCC Management Report 340 and Somatic Cell High Cow Report 241.
Participants must register by 11:59 p.m. Jan. 10. The $15 registration fee includes lunch.
