KANE — A Mount Jewett man was arraigned over the weekend on allegations that he threatened to lock a woman inside a home and set it on fire.
Robert Copley Jr., 48, of Anderson Street, is charged with possession of a firearm prohibited and strangulation, second-degree felonies; terroristic threats, a first-degree misdemeanor; simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor; and harassment, a summary.
According to the criminal complaint, on Dec. 2 at 3:06 a.m., state police were dispatched to Copley’s address for a domestic incident in progress. A female at the residence told police that Copley had put his hands over her entire face, covering her mouth, and squeezed very hard, causing severe pain. He threatened to kill her, and said he would lock her inside the house and set it on fire, the complaint stated.
The female told police about a gun that Copley had, and said he was a prior felon and cannot possess firearms.
Copley was arraigned before District Judge David Engman and remanded to jail on $200,000 bail. He is scheduled for Central Court Dec. 14.
