Officers from every department in McKean County, and the Lewis Run barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police, took part in an effort Nov. 22 to curb drunk or impaired driving as well as enforce the vehicle code prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.
District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reported Wednesday that this patrol netted the following results: four DUI arrests, 24 other traffic citations, four other misdemeanor arrests, one underage drinking citation, one other criminal citation and 127 warnings.
Shaffer added, “The crash in Foster Township that took out the light was not included because it happened after the detail.” The accident occurred in the early morning hours of Thanksgiving. For more details on this matter, read the article in today’s edition.
DUI enforcement occurs every shift across the county, Shaffer emphasized, “but the DUI detail was meant to ensure that every part of the county had police coverage during the set hours of the detail and at least one officer focused on patrol to reduce the chance of a DUI crash.”
She added that officers noted a large number of vehicles that were left parked overnight outside area bars which “suggests the use of designated drivers and responsible drinking.”
Similar details will continue to occur across the county in an attempt to prevent future DUI fatalities.
