CARROLLTON, N.Y. — Federal officials are looking into an emergency landing on Route 417 on Tuesday evening.
New York State Police on Wednesday morning identified the pilot of the aircraft which made an emergency landing on Route 417 at about 4:55 p.m. Tuesday as Ethan M. McIntosh, 21, of Wilton, Maine. Troopers said the pilot reported mechanical problems with the aircraft and, flying alone, landed on the roadway.
The plane landed without damaging any property or causing any injuries.
Troopers reported that the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating.
According to the preliminary incident report issued Wednesday morning, the FAA reported “the aircraft declared an emergency due to loss of the propeller.” Images of the aircraft posted on social media did not appear to show a propeller on the aircraft.
FAA records identified the aircraft as a 2007 Sonex, a two-seat, single-engine experimental light-sport aircraft sold as plans or a kit for personal construction. The aircraft carried a valid registration and was issued its latest certificate on July 12. The aircraft is registered to McIntosh, but was constructed by a third party. FAA Airman Registry records indicate McIntosh holds a commercial pilot and flight instructor certificates.
The NTSB, which investigates aircraft mishaps, had not issued a report at the time of publication.
