CANDY: It’s that time of year again, when folks head to the stores to stock up on candy, telling themselves it’s for Halloween.

Candystore.com has its annual list of the most popular Halloween candy for each state, and the worst candy, too.

In Pennsylvania, Hershey’s Mini Bars are in first place, followed by M&Ms and Skittles. Across the border in New York, Sour Patch Kids are in first place, followed by Hot Tamales and candy corn.

For the most popular Halloween candy, in tenth place is Snickers, in ninth is Hershey Mini Bar, in eighth is candy corn, seventh is Hershey Kisses, sixth is Starburst, fifth is Sour Patch Kids, Skittles in fourth, Hot Tamales is third, M&Ms is in second, and the overall winner is Reese’s Cups.

What about the worst?

Number ten is Tootsie Rolls, number nine is Bit-O-Honey, number eight is licorice, number seven is Smarties, number six is Mary Janes, number five is wax cola bottles, number four was peanut butter kisses, number three was Necco wafers, number two was candy corn and the number one worst candy was circus peanuts.

Now for some quick candy facts: 172 million Americans celebrate Halloween.

Among those who celebrate Halloween, 96% will purchase candy, and will spend about $31.93 on average.

Most Halloween shopping is done the first 2 weeks of October.

In Oregon, full-sized candy bars are the norm for trick-or-treaters to receive, according to Candystore.com

The National Retail Foundation’s Annual Halloween spending survey for this year estimates candy spending could hit $3.6 billion.

That’s a lot of Reese’s Cups.
