MOUNT JEWETT — The Main Street Plaza Pocket Park project underway in Mount Jewett Borough recently received additional grant funds toward its completion.
Rep. Martin Causer, R-Turtlepoint, announced a $179,200 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Community Conservation Partnership Program toward the ongoing work.
“This is another great investment in the Mount Jewett community that supports a project to further capitalize on the recreational opportunities available in and around the town,” Causer said. “I commend local officials and volunteers for their hard work and vision.”
Mount Jewett Mayor Brianna Howard said, “We thank Rep. Causer for his leadership and work in helping establish this grant for our Mount Jewett community. The grant funds will go toward continuing revitalization efforts that will create a space for years to come.”
The park project will involve rehabilitating a vacant lot downtown to include an outdoor amphitheater, accompanied by a patio and seating area. A comfort station with restrooms will also be installed for use by local patrons. The goal is to bring people downtown and encourage the development of other vacant buildings nearby.
The borough previously received a $120,000 grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
“I thank our Borough Manager Barbara Harp and Borough Council President Jason Hughes for their work in pursuing this project,” Howard added. “We look forward to seeing how this pocket park project will take shape and how our community will use this space to enjoy a variety of activities and events!”
