Who remembers the “rad and totally tubular” 1980s? An evening to celebrate the decade is planned as a fundraiser for the Bradford YMCA at 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Pennhills Club.
For those who were “bad to the bone,” “preppy,” “rad,” or “grody,” this is one way you can “party hardy” for a good cause.
“Funds raised from this event will support the work of the YMCA and the programs it provides in efforts to support the spirit, mind and body of our community,” said Emily Rhoades, YMCA executive director.
A Burger Bar will be served while guests bid on silent auction items from local businesses such as Main Street Mercantile, Slice of the 80s, Bradford Chocolate Factory, Miller’s Kenpo Karate Dojo, John William’s European Pastry Shop and Rel-Axe & Smash, to name a few.
While the silent auction and raffles highlight the evening, “The entertainment will feature one of Olean’s best 80s DJs,” Rhoades said. “DJ Gene Rogers, playing the most chart-topping pop, new wave and rock hits of the decade.”
YMCA board member Joe Autieri said, “We are trying to put the fun in fundraiser and make this an annual community event for everyone to let their hair down, or in this case tease it up. 80s Night will help us support youth, families and seniors who participate in YMCA programs that improve their health, enrich their lives and help them cope with challenges.”
Auteri noted that funding helps support early childhood education, before- and after-school care, health and wellness activities for members of all ages, senior scholarships, youth sports and swim lessons.
“The programs help meet the needs of our community. Proceeds from this event will ensure that everyone can access and afford programs,” he added.
“We encourage attendees to dress in their ’80s best,” Rhoades said. “If not, casual attire is the dress code. It is a great way to support a great cause.”
Fitting the ’80s theme, awards will be given for Most Rad. Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased at the YMCA, 59 Boylston St., at the Pennhills Club or by calling (814) 368-6101.
