The Fretz football team earned their first win of the season, taking down Kane 21-6 with major gains on the ground.
The Fretz squad struck early, scoring once in the first half while stunting their opponents drive, entering the halftime break up 7-0. In the second, Fretz would continue to force the ball up field with their run games, scoring twice more. Kane would eventually find the endzone, albeit, not without struggles to gain yards.
Keenan Miller led Fretz’s run game, recording 81 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Quarterback Lucas Wallace also contributed key rushing plays, collecting 52 yards on seven carries, including a 27 yard gain that put him in the end zone. Wallace also went 5-for7 through the air for 36 passing yards. Max Gow dabbled in both the run and receiving game, carrying the ball three times for 30 yards and making two catches for 24 yards and scoring once.
On defense, Miller and Bentley Evans both had four tackles, while Brady Rosendahl led the team with five. Wallace would intercept a Kane pass during the win.
“It was a little tight at first but we started loosening up and started to do the things we needed to,” said Fretz head coach Mike Gow. “The whole team did a great job and it came together finally.”
The team’s next game is on Thursday, when they will travel to play St. Marys.
