(TNS) — Kraft Heinz has recalled thousands of cases of its processed cheese slices that are packaged in individual plastic wrappers.
The company said it has voluntarily recalled 83,800 cases after an issue with a wrapping machine made “it possible that a thin strip of the individual film may remain on the slice after the wrapper has been removed.”
That strip of film, the company said, “could be unpleasant and potentially cause a gagging or choking hazard” when the cheese is consumed.
The company said it received “several consumer complaints about finding the plastic stuck to a slice, including six complaints of consumers saying they choked or gagged in connection with the issue. No injuries or serious health issues have been reported.”
The machine that wrapped the recalled slices, the company said, has been fixed and “all other processing machines have been thoroughly inspected.”
The details of the recalled cheese are:
Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product, 16-ounces, individual package UPC of 0 2100061526 1 and a “best when used by” date of Jan. 10, 2024, through Jan. 27, 2024. Individual packages in this recall will contain an “S” and “72” in the manufacturing code.
Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product, 3-pound multipack, with a carton UPC of 0 2100060491 3 and a “best when used by” date of Jan. 9, 2023, through Jan. 13, 2024 and Jan. 16, 2024.
The cheese can be returned to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange.
