The Master Watershed Steward Information Session for PA Wilds webinar, offered through PennState Extension, is a free online information meeting on how residents can improve the health of Pennsylvania’s waterways.
Travis Wingard, Master Watershed Steward Coordinator for Cameron, Elk, Potter, and McKean Counties, will guide attendees from 7 to 8 p.m. on October 27, in learning about the environment and being outdoors. For those with a deep love of water, wildlife, and woods, the preservation of waterways and natural areas for future generations is vital.
Residents in Cameron, Centre, Clarion, Clearfield, Clinton, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, Lycoming, McKean, Potter, and Tioga counties who have a keen interest in the environment, are willing to learn and teach, and have time to volunteer, should register for this webinar.
Attendees will learn about the Master Watershed Steward program training, structure, commitment, and requirements, as well as discover the types of projects in which the MWS volunteer team engages in. They will also be introduced to valuable program partners and learn about Penn State Extension and the Land Grant College system.
Master Watershed Stewards teach adults and children about water quality, wildlife habitats, and the environment. They develop educational materials, organize and conduct educational events, stream clean-ups, and invasive plant removal projects. Many MWS volunteers design and maintain demonstration gardens, conduct stream monitoring projects and research, or research and write newsletters and online articles. Others partner with municipal officials on projects, such as bioswales, rain gardens, native meadows, and other green stormwater management solutions — all to make a positive difference in their communities.
