A Ludlow man was jailed following an early morning arraignment Wednesday on allegations involving resisting arrest.
Shawn Thornton, 44, of 22 W. Main St., is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors; resisting arrest, second-degree misdemeanors; and disorderly conduct, a summary offense.
According to the criminal complaint, at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, state police were dispatched to Thornton’s residence in Hamilton Township for a reported verbal domestic. Before troopers arrived, they were informed that one of the people involved was Thornton, and he had active warrants out of Warren County.
When troopers arrived, Thornton was outside the residence with a belt around his neck and a knife in his hand. He dropped the knife and was told to walk away from the area, but he refused. He was told he would be tased if he didn’t comply. A trooper tased him, which caused Thornton to fall into the basement, the complaint stated.
Thornton then ran into the basement and refused to cooperate with police. He was tased again and taken into custody, resisting police through the process. He was transported to the state police barracks, and found to be in possession of methamphetamine, the complaint stated.
Thornton was arraigned before District Judge David Engman in Kane and jailed in lieu of $25,000 bail He is scheduled for Central Court on Sept. 22.
