New expanded hours began at the beginning of September and will continue. The Bradford Public Library is now open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
The community is invited at 6 p.m., Monday, September 12, to view a special documentary depicting the spirit and contributions of a passionate and successful leader in our nation’s history. Thaddeus Stevens, an ardent abolitionist, was a member of the United States House of Representatives from Pennsylvania in the 1860s. In celebration of Stevens’ 230th birthday, the Thaddeus Stevens Society commissioned a new hour-long documentary detailing Stevens’ pivotal role in the progress of our commonwealth and our nation. A dozen historians were interviewed in compiling this documentary, providing keen insights based on decades of research.
On Wednesday, September 14 in the library’s Community Room at 6 p.m., the library will hold an author visit with Ann Hajdu Hultberg. She will discuss her recently released book, “Something To Hold On To.” In the book, she recounts stories about her parents and friends, siblings and grandmothers, marriage and motherhood, animals and teaching, and death and regret. Her heartfelt words will leave readers laughing and crying at these poignant moments that we experience in life. Readers who have experienced immigration or know of someone who has will relate to her stories about her father’s escape from Hungary during the 1956 Uprising (Soviet invasion of his country).
Saturday, September 17, “Marty the Bubble Guy” will be bringing his crazy antics to town for an 11 a.m. show that will include great music, dancing, lots of bubbles, plus his special toilet paper blaster! Children and adults are guaranteed to have a fun time.
Beginning Thursday, September 22 and running through Thursday, October 27, the youth department has partnered with the McKean County 4-H group to offer a 6-week series of STEAM workshops for students in grades 4 through 8. Each Thursday session begins at 4 p.m. and will provide youth with an opportunity to see all that 4-H has to offer. Workshops will explore a variety of topics ranging from animal science, and environmental studies to expressive art and nutrition. While the 4-H series is free, registration is necessary. Call the library at (814) 362-6527 or email program@bradfordlibrary.org.
