Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital awarded Primary Stroke Center Certification

SAYRE — Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval and the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Primary Stroke Center Certification.

This certification is given to hospitals that provide the critical elements of stroke care to achieve long-term success in improving outcomes. The hospital must adopt a set of standardized performance measures and data is collected and submitted to the Joint Commission quarterly. Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital is recognized for having the stroke team and processes to care for patients suffering from stroke associated with clots and hemorrhaging.

“Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital has a comprehensive program for the treatment and recovery from stroke with board-certified vascular and neurology specialists and hybrid operating room,” says Joseph Sawyer, President, Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. “We are committed to consistently improve our care to make sure our patients are getting the best care possible.”

“Primary Stroke Center Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to fostering continuous quality improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for stroke patients.”

“We congratulate Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital for this outstanding achievement,” says Nancy Brown, chief executive officer, the American Stroke Association. “This certification reflects its commitment to providing the highest quality of care for stroke patients.”
