Freedom has never been free — Veterans have been fighting for our freedom, and these heroes’ service and sacrifice deserves recognition.
For the remainder of the year, Bradford Legion Post #108 will be participating in the Wreaths Across America donation campaign to raise money to place fresh wreaths on each veteran’s grave in Bradford.
Wreaths Across America is a nationwide annual campaign to raise funds and awareness for veterans. Donated funds purchase fresh wreaths from Maine which are placed on the graves of veterans. A single wreath can be purchased for at a cost of $15.
This year, new to the Bradford area, the Legion Post #108 have donated their time and efforts to raising awareness and donations to place a wreath on each of the 3,000 veteran graves in Bradford. The Legion plans to place wreaths at Willow Dale, St. Bernards, Oak Hill and Degolia Cemeteries on Saturday, Dec. 17.
“Our goal is to sell at least 3,000 wreaths by Nov. 29,” confirmed Legion representative Bob Witchen. “Come on Bradford, I know we can do it!”
There are two easy ways to contribute a donation. Order online by visiting the Bradford Legion’s Wreaths Across America page via www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/pages/171654 or by filling out a Wreaths Across America form (available at the Legion and online), accompanied with payment, to be dropped off at the Bradford Legion Post 108, Attn: Bob Witchen. Checks may be made payable to Bradford Legion Post 108.
According to Witchen, the Legion is also seeking volunteers willing to help place wreaths on veteran graves on Dec. 17. “We would love to see area Boy Scout troops, students from area schools, individuals or organizations volunteering their time to help us cover all of Bradford’s veterans,” said Witchen. Individuals or organizations interested in volunteering, may contact (814) 598–4183.
The Bradford Legion Post #108 will hold a nationwide remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m. on Dec. 17 before they, and area volunteers, depart to Bradford’s cemeteries to lay wreaths.
The deadline to sponsor a fresh wreath for an area veteran is Nov. 29.
