BUCKET SHORTAGE: That’s it, the world as we know it has completely fallen apart — okay, not really, — but, seriously, there is a shortage of popcorn buckets now.

A post on the Kane Drive In Facebook page caught our attention recently. It was a graphic of a large green salad bowl, a red wheelbarrow, a blue bucket, and a brown paper bag with handles. The caption read: Which of these things doesn’t belong? The answer: the wheelbarrow.

What is more iconic than popcorn at the drive in? Nothing. But, according to their post, “the latest victim of the supply chain difficulties are popcorn buckets. So for the weekend the drive in is BYOB (Bring Your Own Bucket) and we will fill it with popcorn for $6. *Sorry, no wheelbarrows, swimming pools, or car trunks will be accepted.”

The owner confirmed, “It’s a real problem. Other theater owners are having the same issue. Lots of people have brought their own containers, and one sweet patron donated a bunch of Easter buckets, but they were all gone in one night.”

In other popcorn related news, according to Popcorn.org, action movies are rated as the favorite genre and butter flavored popcorn ranked highest among survey respondents.

What were the perfect movie night requirements, you might be wondering? Number one, at 51% is popcorn, followed closely by cozy blankets at 46%, and in third place at 37% is chocolate.

So, supply chain snarls or not, popcorn is vital to the movie-watching experience.

Be sure to check that Kane Drive In, or whichever one you are going to, is still in BYOB mode before bringing a popcorn container. If they are, maybe bring an extra to donate for someone else.
