Temperatures will reach a high near 70 degrees on Saturday, providing individuals with boats, canoes or kayaks a great day to float the Tunungwant Creek while participating in the tenth annual We Gotta Regatta.
We Gotta Regatta is an annual event which raises funds for the Tuna Valley Trail Association and the proceeds are utilized for trail maintenance, trail development and special projects undertaken by the association.
Participants are encouraged to enter the creek at Campus Drive in Bradford, below the spillway, and then enjoy a leisurely float until they reach Crook Farm on Seaward Avenue. There will be volunteers on-site at the Crook Farm location between noon and 4 p.m. to assist people with taking boats out of the water.
Individuals who would like to participate but are unable to float the Tunungwant are encouraged to hike along the three-mile Crook Farm trail, near the creek, and stop-in afterward to enjoy the fun at the end of the route.
“Event chairman Evan Pecora has worked hard to put together this year’s event,” explained event coordinator Kylie Battin. “CJ’s BBQ will be at Crook Farm, at the end of the route, to provide lunch to those who purchase a ticket.”
There will be live musical entertainment at the end of the route as well, between 2 and 4 p.m. In addition, event coordinators will be holding a 50/50 drawing, a raffle and Regatta t-shirts will be for sale. The t-shirts commemorating the tenth year of the We Gotta Regatta event will be for sale at a cost of $20.
The raffle will be for a bright orange TREK bicycle from Just Riding Along. Entries for the raffle will be one for $5 and five for $20. Entries can be purchased at Just Riding Along, during the event or on the Tuna Valley Trail Association website. The raffle will run up until Friday, June 17 before a winner is drawn.
“This year we are excited to hold an exciting event for our 10th year,” said Battin.
Tickets for the regatta are $20 and include lunch from CJ’s BBQ. Alcohol will not be served at this year’s event, according to Battin.
