DuBOIS — U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson announced the winners of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition on Tuesday.
The contest was held on Saturday during an exhibit at the Winkler Gallery of Fine Art in DuBois.
A regional student from Elk County Catholic High School was awarded third place in the contest. From St. Marys, Moira Stanisch submitted a drawing of a dog using colored pencils.
First place was awarded to Leira Bertolasio of Sidman, and second place went to Connie Yang of Johnstown.
An independent panel of judges selected the winners from a record 81 entries, one of the largest groups of students to participate in Pennsylvania’s 15th Congressional District Art Competition.
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, more than 650,000 high school students have participated in the nationwide competition.
