SALVATION ARMY SUCCESSES: This week from Tuesday, May 10 through Monday, May 16 is set aside in recognition of the National Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army is a volunteer organization which endeavors to take on the massive responsibility of helping individuals who find themselves in need. According to NationalToday.com, not only is the Salvation Army at work in 132 countries around the world, it hosts more than 7,500 centers of operation in the U.S. alone. Our local Salvation Army can be found at 111 Jackson Ave., Bradford, and is under the direction of Major David Means Jr.
If you can’t think of a reason to recognize and honor this organization today, here are just a few: in 2020 between March and Sept., the Salvation Army provided more than 155 million meals; 1.6 million nights of safe shelter; 6.6 million food boxes to starving individuals and provided emotional and spiritual care to an estimated 857,000 people.
Awareness of the work that the Salvation Army does is diminishing — and they are one of those institutions that do the work without blowing their own horns. There are so many people and organizations around the world that talk about helping people, but when it comes to action, only a few organizations, such as the Salvation Army, rise to the task. Thus this week is important for individuals to recognize the organization’s efforts and also attempt to spread global awareness about this charitable work.
Make time this week to honor the tireless efforts of the Salvation Army by volunteering at the local Salvation Army, recognize their efforts with a monetary/material donation or take a few minutes to shout out their efforts through social media. #SalvationArmy
