SMETHPORT — Every District 9 softball team has felt the effects of a wet spring, but perhaps none more than Otto-Eldred.
O-E will begin the month of May without having played a home game, managing just three contests before this week. Now that they’ve started to see some field time, however, the Lady Terrors have begun to show why they’re among the top contenders in Class A.
Hannah Gordon went 2-for-3 with a double, leading the way in a 15-0, three-inning victory over Smethport on Friday. O-E put up nine runs in the 1st before five in the 3rd sealed the deal, as the Lady Terrors improved to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in the Northern Allegheny League.
“We’re finally getting outside and getting a chance to pay a little bit,” O-E coach Roger Veilleux said. “We’re better defeinstily and our pitching keeps improving. We’re starting to hit the ball, too, so things are going well.”
Kate Rhinehart went 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBI against the Lady Hubbers, while Bri Heller and Katie Sheeler each doubled. Heller picked up the win in the pitching circle, striking out nine while walking one in three no-hit innings.
Like several others, the Lady Terrors will play a large chunk of their schedule in the next three weeks. The team’s depth, however, could be the key to consistent success.
“We have a lot of pitching,” Veilleux said. “We have three pitchers, so it’ll be about utilizing those arms while making sure no one gets tired out. The more games in a row you play, it seems that everything starts getting crisper, and we’ve seen that with our defense.”
O-E will host Oswayo Valley Monday for a game that will double as its home opener and Senior Night.

Coudy jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings, but the Lady Tigers scored five runs in the 3rd to steal momentum. The Lady Falcons then found themselves trailing by five in the 7th, and despite a two-run double from Sierra Myers, stranded the tying run on second.
Myers finished 3-for-5 at the dish with four RBI and a run scored. Emma Saulter added two hits, two RBI and a walk in five trips, while Ava Wahlers went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

STRATTANVILLE — Syd Alexander’s RBI triple set up an RBI single from Caitlyn Vollmer in the top of the 7th.
Those two hits powered the two difference-making runs for Elk County Catholic against Clarion-Limestone, as Emily Mourer worked around a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 7th to finish a Lady Crusader victory. ECC’s offense sputtered for much of the night, but scored six runs in a 4th inning that provided an immediate answer for C-L’s five-run 3rd.
Ellie Baron had three hits and an RBI for ECC, while Vollmer finished with three RBI on two hits and Lydia Anderson added two hits and an RBI. Each Lady Crusader tallied at least one hit, equating to 14 total team hits.
