Bradford woman arraigned on theft allegation

A Bradford woman was sent to McKean County Jail following arraignment Thursday on allegations that she stole thousands of dollars from her mother.

Emilie Vangor, 32, of 22 Merrow Ave., is charged with theft and access device fraud, third-degree felonies; and receiving stolen property, a first-degree misdemeanor.

According to the criminal complaint, in March, the victim contacted police to say her purse was stolen from her residence. It contained $10,000 in cash, two bank cards, identification cards and a prescription slip. There were no signs of forced entry, and the victim said she believed Vangor could be a likely suspect.

The victim reported the cards had been used several times. Police obtained surveillance images that showed Vangor making purchases with the cards. On March 30, police arrested Vangor, and she had the cards in her possession, along with some cash and the victim’s driver’s license, the complaint alleged.

When interviewed by police, Vangor admitted to taking the purse from her mother’s residence. She said she didn’t know how much cash had been in the purse, or how much she still had in her possession, the complaint stated.

Vangor was arraigned before District Judge Dom Cercone and remanded to jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing for the case is scheduled for May 4.
