PORT ALLEGANY — Coudersport brought its bats out in full force on Thursday.
The Lady Falcon softball team slugged 19 hits in a 21-7 victory over Port Allegany, as six players recorded multiple hits and five drove in multiple runs. A four-run 1st gave Coudy a quick start, and from there, the offense kept coming.
“We’ve been struggling to hit the ball all year and we were finally able to hit the ball hard,” Coudy coach Trevor Saulter said. “The whole team hit the ball well tonight. Even some of the girls that didn’t get on base had hard hits. It was good to see us put the ball in play consistently.”
Makenzie Gentzyel was 4-for-6 at the plate for the Lady Falcons, driving in five runs along the way. Sierra Myers was a perfect 5-for-5, scoring five runs while driving in two more.
Madyson Dubots-Angood, Emma Saulter, Ava Wahlers and Aubrey Thompson each added two hits for Coudy, while Dubots-Angood, Saulter and Thompson each drove in three runs.
Saulter was strong over four innings pitched, striking out 10 while scattering one hit and two walks. The senior didn’t allow an earned run.
“Emma threw well tonight,” Trevor Saulter said. “She’s really just starting to find her groove again, and hopefully tonight was a sign of good things to come.”
After Coudy had built its early lead, Port roared back in the middle innings, cutting the score to 7-6 in Coudy’s favor through five. The Lady Falcons countered with an eight-run 6th and six-run 7th, however, putting the game out of reach.
Tori Tanner had two hits and an RBI for Port, while Cayle Lloyd and Kayleigha Dowell each had a hit and drove in a run. Coudy improved to 2-2 with the win while Port dropped to 1-4.
