HS Wrap: Owls falter at DuBois; ECC softball, Coudy track claim victories

DUBOIS — After starting the season on a strong note by beating Brockway, the Bradford baseball team suffered its first setback Wednesday, dropping a 15-0 defeat to DuBois in four innings.

The Beavers jumped on the Owls early, scoring two runs in the first inning and two more in the second before an eight-run third sealed Bradford’s fate. Brycen Dinkfelt homered and Alek Pasternak tripled to highlight DuBois’ offense.

Nolan Ruolo had two hits for Bradford, while Mike Gow added a hit.

BOLIVAR, N.Y. — Trey Buchholz and Caden Allen combined to allow just two hits and Bolivar-Richburg struck early in winning an intriguing interstate battle.

Aydin Sisson went 3-for-4 and Reiss Gaines was 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs for the Wolverines (3-0), who went up 5-0 in the first two innings and tacked on four insurance runs in the sixth after Coudy made it 5-2. Sawyer Johnson added a hit and also drove in a pair.

Wyatt Daisley and Gavyn Ayers had the two hits for the Falcons.

PUNXSUTAWNEY — Punsxutawney’s early offense proved sufficient against Elk County Catholic, as the Chucks scored a run in the first and two more in the second before holding on to beat ECC.

The Crusaders rallied in the 5th, when Luke Ginther drove home Joey Geci with an RBI single. Tommy Slay then scored on an infield error by Punxsy, but the Crusaders stranded the tying run on base and failed to muster another rally.

Slay led ECC with two hits while Ginther, Ben Reynolds and Dom Zambanini each added one hit. Joe Tettis struck out six batters over 4.2 innings of work on the mound.
