Bradford man arraigned for alleged escape

A Bradford man is back in McKean County Jail after allegedly walking out of an inpatient treatment center in Erie in October.

Chaz Zawatski, 31, of Walker Avenue, is charged with escape and default in required appearance, both third-degree felonies.

According to the criminal complaint, on Oct. 21, state police were called to McKean County Jail for a report of an escaped inmate. The trooper learned that on Oct. 19, Zawatski was transported to Erie and was checked in to the Gaudenzia inpatient facility. On Oct. 20, Zawatski checked himself out, but failed to return to the jail as required.

He was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Bill Todd and remanded to jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Monday.
