MT. JEWETT — Continue a New Year’s resolution by taking a walk in the Kinzua Bridge State Park during their Healthy Hike program at noon on Saturday, March 26. Interested participants will meet at the General Kane Trailhead in the overflow parking lot.
The General Kane Trail is an easy to moderate approximately one-mile hike through the woods. Park staff asks participants to dress according to the weather.
For those individuals who enjoy an early morning walk, the Kinzua Bridge State Park will hold an Early Rise Walk at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 17. Stroll out on the “Skywalk” to watch the sunrise. Reflect on the beauty of the Kinzua Creek Valley and the Kinzua Gorge below. This is a special event and the building will be open early to participants after the walk.
At 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 23 the Kinzua Bridge State Park will hold a program to Celebrate Earth Day. Although Earth Day is on Friday this year, the park will celebrate on Saturday instead.
Earth Day is a day set aside to celebrate the Earth and the care of the environment. It started back in 1970 and is still celebrated today.
“Being part of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, we care a lot about the environment and our precious resources are very important to us,” said Park staff.
For individuals interested in helping the Earth, the park will participate in activities such as litter pick-up, raking and general park beautification during the program. Staff asks that participants bring their own gloves and dress for the weather. Staff will provide garbage bags and some equipment.
