U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson said President Joe Biden “tried to rewrite history” with his State of the Union address Tuesday night, glossing over the fact that Americans face real hardships with record high inflation.
“Mr. Biden owns this energy crisis, which is the direct result of his administration crippling domestic production, making us more vulnerable to global market fluctuations such as those caused by Russian aggressions in Ukraine,” Thompson, R-Centre County said in a statement. “Releasing emergency stockpiles of oil on the eve of the State of the Union Address should not be celebrated — it’s temporary and not a comprehensive energy policy.”
Thompson said talk of electric vehicles or “speaking in platitudes about a green economy” will not change the fact that everyday Americans are paying a needlessly high price at the gas pump. The congressman added that the president continues to ignore what Thompson called a national emergency at the southern border, with “unprecedented” illegal migration leading to millions of apprehensions, limited deportations and a signature domestic policy agenda that aims to legalize the status of millions of people here unlawfully.
“No amount of grandstanding or revisionist history is going to change the fact that the American people have a starkly different view from the president on the direction of our country,” Thompson said.
