PORT ALLEGANY — The McKean County Conservation District, in partnership with Penn State Extension and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), will offer a Winter Farmer’s Meeting on Feb. 11.
The meeting will begin at noon and be held at the Veterans Memorial, located on Route 155 in Port Allegany.
This afternoon class has the following pesticide credits approved by Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture: 00 Core-2; PC Private -2, 01 Agronomic Crops-2, 18 Demonstration & Research-2.
Program topics include a Farm Bill update, NRCS program highlights, keeping pesticides out of groundwater, the importance of manure application setbacks for private drinking water resources, perennial forage weed control in hay and summer annual weed control options in corn and soybeans.
Registration is free, which includes lunch. Register by Feb. 4 by calling the Conservation District at 814-887-4025. Financial support for this project is provided by the PA Association of Conservation Districts through a grant from the PA Department of Environmental Protection.
