Three recent Bradford Area High School graduates have been awarded the Bradford Instrumental Music Scholarship for the 2020/2021 school year by the Bradford Public Schools Foundation.
Scholarships in the total amount of $2,500 were awarded to Gerrit Randall-Klouw, Spencer Whittemore and Evan Stewart through a competitive application process that evaluated a variety of factors, including the students’ contributions to the instrumental music program, leadership abilities, extracurricular activities and work ethic. Gerrit, Spencer and Evan each exemplified exceptional commitment to the music program by participating in multiple instrumental music classes/ensembles, productions, and festivals throughout their respective high school careers. Each recipient also assumed leadership positions within the BAHS competition marching band, further contributing to the overall success of the program.
Gerrit Randall-Klouw was awarded for not only his involvement in the band program but also for being a member of Key Club, National Honor Society and an accomplished swimmer. Gerrit is attending Alma College to study physics.
Spencer Whittemore found time outside of his band commitments to participate in Track and DECA. He also kept busy by working at various establishments in Bradford. Spencer’s anticipated field of study is mechanical engineering.
Evan Stewart was also an active member of Key Club at BAHS where he completed many service projects for his school and community. Evan is pursuing engineering at the University of Virginia.
The awards were given in memory of Dave Anderson, a former band parent, Band Booster President, Scholarship Committee Member, and long-time contributor to Bradford Area High School’s instrumental music program. Dave’s dedication and commitment to the program promoted the importance of music in our school system and the positive affect on students.
