PORT ALLEGANY — Port Allegany used balanced offense to overcome a sluggish start and earn a league win by beating Oswayo Valley, 33-17, Friday at home.
Port was led by Evin Stauffer, Leigha Nelson and Ella Moses, who put up eight points each to spearhead the Lady Gator offense. Nelson and Stauffer did their damage in the fourth quarter to prevent any comeback while Moses did hers in the middle quarters to help Port build its lead.
Stauffer also had six steals and four assists while Moses pulled down nine boards. Kayleigha Dowell had seven points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Brooke George led Oswayo Valley with six points.

SMETHPORT — Galeton pulled back from large deficits twice but couldn’t overcome Smethport in a NTL contest.
Elizabeth Hungiville earned a double-double on the night, putting up 16 points and pulling down 15 rebounds. Abby Lutz helped out as well with 13 points, nine boards and four steals. Olivia Rohrbaugh and Alli Macensky weren’t going to let Galeton go without a fight. They combined for 26 points, 15 and 11, with a 3-pointer each.
But help from multiple members of the Lady Hubbers, like Jaidyn Goodman’s six rebounds, two points, two assists and two steals, or Danielle Nelson’s two points, three assists and five steals, helped Smethport overcome the late surge from Galeton.
“We need to play four good quarters a game,” said Smethport coach Chad Goodman. “We come out and start the first half on a 10-2 run, let them back in the second quarter. Third quarter 14-4 (run for us), (then we) let ‘em go on a 17-9 run in the fourth quarter.
“We did a good job at the end closing out the contest. We just need to focus on closing out… Just happy for the girls getting a win. Hopefully we’ll get some girls back healthy and make a run at it.”

DUKE CENTER — Otto-Eldred put up a staggering 31 points in the first quarter and coasted to victory from there.
Katie Sheeler had 19 of her game-leading 22 points in the first quarter to power the Lady Terror offense. Anna Merry and Bri Heller scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, in O-E’s display of firepower. O-E hit nine 3-pointers on the night and held Austin to just six trips to the free throw line.
Isabella Rees led Austin with 13 points, six steals and six rebounds in the contest. O-E won’t be allowed to rest on its first quarter performance however.
“Ahead 31-4 after one quarter,” said O-E head coach Shawn Gray. “After that, the score was 29-26. We didn’t play very well at all and made way too many mistakes. We gave up 11 offensive rebounds and committed 20 turnovers.
“That isn’t good enough for this team… Hopefully we can fix it by tomorrow.”
