HEROES: Bradford native and Korea Veteran Donald Neal shared this poem in honor of Veterans Day.

They are Heroes

They left their homes to go to war,

To bring peace to the people of our land.

Young men and women, some would fight and die,

This is not what they had planned.

They knew that freedom is never free,

There are some that would take our freedom away.

They gave more than anyone could believe,

We should honor them on Veterans Day.

Only they know what happened on D-Day,

On the beach at Normandy,

In the mountains of Korea,

On the ships far out at sea.

The place we will never forget, called Vietnam.

Where marines and soldiers would stand and fight.

Then Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Where the ending of the way was nowhere in sight.

Those who returned to their families,

We should hold in the highest esteem.

They should be classed as heroes,

For trying to fulfill a dream.

The dream is for a peaceful world,

And a life of success and prosperity.

So if you see a veteran, stop and say thank you,

He fought to keep your country free.

VETS: Susie Coffman of Derrick City also shared this poem in honor of our veterans.

Defenders of Freedom

They are our veterans,

Tall in service, long in stride.

From the Minutemen of Concord,

To soldiers ‘cross the oceans wide.

Some names we will remember.

Some names we’ll never know.

United in one purpose,

Guarding freedom from the foe.

Those no longer with us,

Countless many who served and died.

To Heaven on wings of eagles.

We remember them with pride.

Those who are still living.

By example they still lead.

Thankful for their service.

For our youth, they plant the seed.

It was their duty and their honor.

Serving our country in every way.

Let’s join them, forever proclaiming

God Bless the U.S.A.
