Woodmansee arraigned for alleged neighbor dispute

    By Marcie Schellhammer

The head of maintenance for Bradford Area School District was arraigned Monday on misdemeanor charges of shooting a CO2 pellet gun at a home while police were present.

Eugene Woodmansee, 56, of Burnside Avenue, is charged with recklessly endangering another person, a second-degree misdemeanor, and criminal mischief, a summary offense.

According to the criminal complaint, at 6:57 p.m. Sept. 19, an East Main Street resident called police because her window had been shot while she was sitting inside her home. The victim told police she was sitting near the window when she heard a “pop,” and then the window broke.

Police said the break looked like it had been caused by a BB or pellet gun, as there was a small round mark at the center. As the victim and a police officer were standing in the side yard looking at the window, multiple shots from a pellet gun were going off and striking the residence. Police said the shots were coming from the neighbor’s backyard. The officer went to that area and saw Woodmansee walking from the area, and putting a black object in his waistband and trying to cover it up with his shirt. He was walking at a fast pace, the criminal complaint noted.

The officer yelled for him to stop, but Woodmansee did not.

Instead, he went in to an apartment on East Main Street, where the officer could see him through a large window. Woodmansee made eye contact with the officer, pulled a large revolver from his waistband and handed it to the woman at the residence. The officer told both people to come to the door, the complaint stated.

When the officer spoke to Woodmansee, he noted a strong odor of alcohol and slurred speech, and Woodmansee denied having a gun. He told police he was outside dumping charcoal from the grill and wanted to show the officer. When they went outside, the officer saw the female at the residence grab something from the couch and put it behind her back. He went in and asked her to give the object to him, the complaint stated.

She pulled a large black revolver from behind her back and gave it to the officer. It was a .177 caliber CO2 pellet gun that could hold 10 rounds, the complaint read.

On a later date, Woodmansee spoke to police and said he was shooting pellets into the victim’s yard. He said he and the victim have had multiple incidents in the past.

Woodmansee was arraigned Monday before District Judge Dom Cercone and released on $2,500 unsecured bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Nov. 17.

Woodmansee is the head of maintenance and custodial services for Bradford Area School District, a position he has held since November 2005.
