The longstanding community restaurant that was the Lighthouse has come to an end.
Demolition of the former Lighthouse building at 26 Bolivar Drive began Tuesday. The structure, which housed the Lighthouse Restaurant for several decades, has been standing empty for over a year and a half.
A Google listing for the restaurant states it was owned and family operated in that location since 1987. The doors closed in January of 2020.
At that time, the future of the restaurant was uncertain, leaving customers hopeful they would see someone else take the reins and reopen a place where many spent time enjoying a meal. However, that never came to pass.
The Mama Jane’s Eatery on Bolivar Drive won’t have to worry about another sit-down restaurant situated diagonally across the street, as its predecessor Perkins dealt with for many years. Mama Janes opened in October of 2020, taking over the building where Perkins had been prior.
Online records for 26 Bolivar Drive indicate the space is commercially zoned and is 19,166 sq.feet and that, according to xome.com/realestate, it was sold on Aug. 9, 2021 for $426,500. No owners are listed.
Attempts to reach Foster Township Supervisor Chairman George Hocker were unsuccessful Tuesday, and while rumors are circulating to a potential new purpose for that location, no official plans are known.
The website for WellNow Urgent Care states that a Bradford location is planned for the future, but attempts to confirm that this news is related to the property at 26 Bolivar Drive were unsuccessful as of press time.
