Michael Davis of the Bartlett Country Club beat his own record with his third consecutive victory in the 14th Annual Bergreen Match Play Championship at the Bartlett Country Club on Saturday.
Davis won his semi-final match in a tense 1 up victory over Curtis Barner of Kane, a finalist in last year’s competition. Davis then played Allegany-Limestone teammate Andy Rohrs in the final.
Rohrs won a tense semi-final match to get there, as he edged Kamdyn McClain of Bartlett 1 up on the 19th hole. He had previously defeated top-seeded Spencer Cornelius of Bradford 2&1, in a quarterfinal upset.
In the final, Rohrs took an early two-hole lead with Davis chipping away at the deficit until he built up his own two-hole lead at hole 10.
On the 11th hole, Davis jump-started his round with a near hole-in-one, as his ball would up two inches from the hole. This spurred Davis to win three holes in a row and clinch a 5&4 victory over his friend.
This is the last year both finalists will be playing in the Bergreen, as Davis will continue his golf career at Maryland Eastern Shore while Rohrs will play at St. John Fisher.
