SMETHPORT — An unannounced search of the McKean County Jail on Friday turned up no narcotics, according to District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer.
At the request of Sheriff and Warden Dan Woods, officers with the McKean County Drug Task Force, the K-9 officer, jail staff and Erie County (N.Y.) Sheriff K-9 deputies joined Woods in a search of the jail for illegal narcotics.
Shaffer said canines with the Task Force and the Erie County Sheriff’s Department, specially trained in detecting narcotics, searched the jail and individual cells.
“Unannounced searches of the jail is one tool used to ensure safety and security of the facility, inmates and staff,” she said. “During today’s search, no narcotics were found.”
