The Zonta Club of Bradford has awarded three Bradford Area High School seniors $500 Ruth B. Fisher Memorial Scholarships. The students were honored Wednesday at a luncheon held at the Bradford Club. The recipients for 2021 are Madison Hartman, Mackenzie Lucas and Sydney Rodgers.
Ruth B. Fisher was a dedicated member of the Zonta Club of Bradford for 23 years and upon her death the club was named as one of her beneficiaries. To honor her memory, the club has been awarding scholarships annually to local high school seniors and students at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford since 1978.
Madison Hartman is the daughter of Shawn Hartman and Melanie Sturdevant. During high school she was a member of the National Honor Society. Her activities were participation in volleyball, the Outdoors Club, Women in STEM, and working part-time at Kohl’s and the Custer City Drive-In. She will attend The State University of New York at Buffalo to pursue a bachelor’s degree in architecture with a minor in environmental design.
Mackenzie Lucas is the daughter of Andrew and Teri Lucas. Her high school activities were participation on the soccer team, swim team, track and field team, and working part-time at the Model T Inn. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Homecoming Committee, Go Green Club and her church youth group. She will be attending The Pennsylvania State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology followed by enrollment in a physician’s assistant program.
Sydney Rodgers is the daughter of Paul and Sherry Rodgers. While in high school she participated in student council, volleyball, tennis, and was a member of the Swim Team and Dive Team. She was an activity leader for the 21st Century Program through the Bradford YMCA and has been employed as a lifeguard, swim coach, and swim lesson instructor. She will be attending Jamestown Community College in Olean, N.Y., beginning with an undecided major in order to research and explore several options for a future career.
