When the District 9 postseason begins next week, the Otto-Eldred baseball and softball teams will find themselves in similar positions.
The district released its 2021 playoff brackets on Thursday, with tournament games scheduled to begin Monday. Each O-E team is seeded second in its respective Class A bracket.
The Terror baseball team, entering the postseason with a 10-4 record, will play the winner of No. 3 Clarion and No. 6 Elk County Catholic at a neutral-site semifinal on May 27.
O-E, led by senior SS/P and Canisius College commit Cole Sebastian, and a host of other offensive weapons, has won four-consecutive games entering the postseason. The Terrors haven’t played more than five innings in a game since a 3-1 victory over Smethport on May 15.
The fourth-seeded Hubbers will host No. 5 DuBois Central Catholic in a Tuesday quarterfinal. A win would pit them against top-seeded Clarion-Limestone, a potential championship opponent for O-E if the Terrors find their way to the final.
In Class AA, Coudersport checks in at No. 5. The Falcons will travel to Moniteau on Tuesday for a quarterfinal matchup, with the victor advancing to play either top-seeded Johnsonburg or the winner of Monday’s play-in game.
No. 8 Port Allegany hosts No. 9 Keystone in that play-in game, with the winner receiving a trip to Johnsonburg the following afternoon.
Meanwhile, the O-E softball team hopes that its quarterfinal matchup with No. 7 Clarion-Limestone will be the first step in a journey to the Class A final.
The Lady Terrors (13-2) will host C-L on Monday, with the winner punching a ticket to a Wednesday neutral-site semifinal. There, O-E would see either No. 3 Elk County Catholic or No. 6 Forest, the former of which beat the Lady Terrors, 4-3, just two days ago.
Of O-E’s 13 wins this season, 11 have come in five innings or less. Other than Wednesday’s loss to ECC, O-E’s only blemish of the season came against the top seed in its postseason bracket.
DuBois Central Catholic (17-2) bested the Lady Terrors in an impressive five inning, 11-0 rout on May 8.
If the Lady Terrors earn a rematch, it will be in the Class A championship game at Heindl Field in DuBois on Memorial Day — May 31. That venue will host the Class AA and Class AAA title games on the same day, while the district baseball finals (Class A and Class AA) will be held at Showers Park in DuBois on May 31, as well.
