HS Baseball and Softball Roundup: Splain tosses no-hitter for O-E; Coudy softball rolls by Port A

SHINGLEHOUSE — Max Splain pitched a five-inning no-hitter to help lead Otto-Eldred to a 13-0 road win over Oswayo Valley.

Splain struck out eight batters and allowed just one walk during his five innings on the mound.

Offensively, the Terrors (2-0) led 1-0 after two innings before scoring 12 runs across the next three innings en route to their five-inning win.

Josh Rhinehart, Wade Daniels and Zaz Bell each recorded an RBI during O-E’s four-run third inning, as Jacob Coffman added a two-run RBI double during the fourth. Jake Merry then hit a three-run RBI double in the fifth. Merry’s three RBI were a game-high.

For OV (0-4), Cayden Black and Nik Bonney combined to throw six strikeouts (Black recorded five) on the mound while allowing 11 earned runs on seven hits.

COUDERSPORT — The Coudersport Falcons found themselves in hot water early on against Port Allegany on Wednesday evening.

The Gators loaded the bases with nobody out in the first inning and looked to be in good position to do some damage. Coudersport pitcher A.J. Redmond had other plans, though. He regained control and got his team out of the jam relatively unscathed as he allowed just one run.

From there, the Falcons ran away with the ballgame en route to an 8-4 victory, improving to 5-0 on the season. They scored at least one run in each of the first four innings, including three in the second and two in the fourth. Derek Easton had just one hit in four plate appearances, but it was a double that plated those three runs in the second inning.

Redmond did a little bit of everything in the contest. He struck out seven in six innings of work on the mound, went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run.

After scoring just one run on a major opportunity in the first inning, the Gators (2-4) did not score again until the sixth inning. They added one more in the seventh but could not start a rally.

SHINGLEHOUSE — Otto-Eldred scored four runs in both the second and seventh innings on its way to a 10-2 win over Oswayo Valley.

Kate Rhinehart led the Lady Terrors (4-0) with three RBI and went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Reilly Raught finished 3-for-4. Kayley Heller was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Jessi Hall tallied two RBI as well.

On the mound, Abby Wolfe recorded three strikeouts in four innings, while Bri Heller struck out eight.

For OV (2-2), Macy West struck out 16 batters and allowed 12 hits and two walks. At the plate, she finished 1-for-3, while Makenzie Mesler went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

O-E’s junior varsity team earned a 4-1 win Wednesday and is now 3-0 on the year.

COUDERSPORT — Coudersport (2-1) scored 11 runs within the first two innings in a decisive home victory over Port Allegany (1-5).

Multiple Falcons had impressive nights in the batter’s box. Sierra Myers had three hits — all of them doubles — in five plate appearances while driving in three runs. Mackenzie Gentzyel had three hits — two singles and a double in four at-bats. She drove in two runs. Seven other Falcons had at least one hit in the game. Five of them also had at least one RBI, including Kaylee VanWhy, Addie Myers and Savannah Myers, who each had two.

Port Allegany did not plate any runs in the first three frames but avoided the 10-run mercy rule with a six-run fourth inning. The rally started with a Bree Garzel homer and a Thea Petruzzi RBI single. Two walks, a wild pitch and a steal of home also led to runs that inning.

On the mound for the Falcons, Addie Myers pitched 3.2 innings. She struck out six and walked six while giving up a pair of runs. Ryelle Black came on in relief and struck out two batters in 3.1 innings.

Kaylee Boyd and Marah Rush combined to give up 15 hits and 11 earned runs on the mound for Port Allegany.
