NATIONAL WORLD WAR I MEMORIAL: The newest war Memorial in Washington, DC, will be celebrated Friday with a live broadcast. Registration is required to see the flag raising at the National World War I Memorial.
A live broadcast at 10 a.m. Friday will share the raising of the Flag for the very first time, making the Memorial a living remembrance site for our Doughboys in perpetuity.
The Pershing Memorial is located in one corner of the memorial layout, while it also includes a flagstaff, a scrim pool, an overlook with views of the other elements of the memorial and also a sloped ramp that provides access to the other parts of the memorial.
Finally, the memorial includes a 58-foot, 38-figure bronze sculpture that tells the story of America’s participation in World War I, viewed through the eyes of a father who leaves behind a family when heading to war.
To register to view the broadcast, visit: https://firstcolors.worldwar1centennial.org/ceremony/ and click “Register now.”
The site also has a story of the individuals who participated in bringing the memorial to its current status and a page that allows the visitor to see the six separate elements of the memorial in detail.
Meanwhile, the World War I Virtual Explorer app, available both via Google Play and on the App Store, provides a virtual field trip experience and the chance to see the memorial in an innovative way when visiting in person is not an option.
