CLAIM THE TRAIL WALK: You’re probably one of the thousands of people who walk along the Richard E. McDowell Community Trail each year. It’s no secret that the trail is perfect for walking and running, pushing babies in strollers or watching children ride bikes, walking dogs, and catching a glimpse of the surrounding wildlife.
It’s also the perfect place to enjoy some peace and quiet, to be enriched and uplifted.
It’s not a place for hate.
The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is inviting Bradford residents to the Hate Has No Home Here Claim the Trail Walk at 6 p.m. today. The purpose of the event is for everyone to get together and take a firm stand that hate in any form and against anyone will not be tolerated on the trail and to make it clear that everyone who uses the trail is treated with respect and dignity by other users.
The walk was organized after an African American female student at Pitt-Bradford was walking the trail last week and was called a derogatory term by two white males accompanied by a child.
The trail should be a place only of beauty, not ugliness.
The Hate Has No Home Here Claim the Trail Walk will begin in the parking lot of the Richard E. and Ruth McDowell Sport and Fitness Center. Participants will walk the trail to Clarks Lane then turn around and return to the parking lot.
If you participate, please remember to wear a mask and maintain physical distance.
