Local area families are in for a treat this summer, as the Bradford Area Public Library has a lot in store.
First off, due to the success and positive feedback, the library is planning on extending their culinary class with Penn State Extension and Laurie Maletto for two age groups.
“We have such a great outcome of this program and we are planning to schedule another session of five weeks in the near future for both groups of students,” said Judy Carr, Youth Services Assistant.
Previous groups began with kindergarten through 4th grade participants, who learned about topics such as measuring and cooking safety. This group made bread in a bag and pasta dishes with the participation of parents.
The 5th through 8th grades learned about topics such as using a knife for chopping properly, homemade mac and cheese and recently finished with a chocolate cake made from scratch.
“The students were very eager to learn and asked when we were going to have the program again,” said Carr. “Ingredients were supplied by the library and this was a virtual program, so it was both convenient for the students and parents to learn right in their own kitchen.”
Currently in place is an evening story time, where the library is looking for participants from the community.
“This program is videoed and airs on our Facebook at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings,” noted Carr. “We have had such a great response from several readers, such as Marcia Daly McAndrew, Holly Puglio, Steve Feldman and Noah Hurrle to name a few. We hope to continue this program at least, until we can have in person story times for the evening.”
Anyone who would like to participate, can come to the library at 9:30 a.m. on Mondays and read two stories of their choice. Those interested in volunteering can email Judy Carr at program@bradfordlibrary.org or call the library at 814-362-6527 to schedule a time.
“It is a wonderful way to connect with parents and grandparents and have a memory that can be shared for a lifetime,” said Carr. “It also gives families a chance to share time and unwind in the evening after a long day.”
Carr put a teaser out for the library’s Summer Reading program, which is slated to begin on June 15th, with the theme of “Tails and Tales.” Additionally, Carr mentioned the library is planning some outside events to fill the summer with fun for families. More information on the events will be released as details are ironed out closer to the date.
